Capelli di fuoco; pelle d'avorio; fisicità da valchiria; una voce pulita, piena e vibrante e una teatralità vagamente drammatica che investe sia la sua musica sia il suo stile: Florence Welch è una di quelle personalità che segnano il secolo in cui viviamo con il loro essere bloccate in un tempo indefinito, sospeso tra avanguardie futuriste e richiami antiquari.

Fire hair; ivory skin; valkyrian body; a clean, plump and vibrant voice and a vaguely dramatic theatricalism that characterizes her music as well as her style: Florence Welch is one of those figures which mark our century by being stuck in an indefinite time, suspended between futurist vanguards and antiquarian references.

Decisamente un ottimo mattone sulla strada per diventare un'icona. E decisamente la principale ragione che ha indotto Karl Lagerfeld a scegliere Florence Welch per chiudere in bellezza la sfilata Chanel del 4 ottobre al Grand Palais di Parigi, in occasione della Paris Fashion Week. Per l'occasione, tra i capi della nuova collezione primavera-estate ispirati alle forme di vita sottomarine, la carismatica frontman dei Florence & The Machine ha fatto il suo ingresso trionfale fuoriuscendo da una conchiglia, come in un revival de La Nascita di Venere di Botticelli.

And definitely the main reason why Karl Lagerfeld chose her to end in style the Chanel fashion show that took place on the 4th October at the Grand Palais of Paris, during the Paris Fashion Week. For the occasion, among the clothes of the new spring-summer collection inspired by underwater life forms, the charismatic leader of Florence & the Machine made her spectacular entrance coming out from a seashell, like in a revival of Botticelli "The Birth of Venus".

Nel corso di un'intervista per NME, una delle principali riviste di musica del Regno Unito, Florence ha infatti dichiarato di aver maturato una sorta di ossessione per l'annegamento nel corso della registrazione dell'ultimo album della sua band, intitolato Ceremonials. 

 "L'annegamento rappresenta un modo di morire molto meno violento degli altri", ha affermato la Welch, "è come lasciarsi lambire da qualcosa. Penso che ci sia del romanticismo in questo." E senza dubbio la rossa londinese, col suo appeal teatrale, sarebbe perfetta nel ruolo di una moderna Ofelia.

During an interview for NME, one of the main music magazines of the UK, Florence declared that during the recording of the latest album of her band, entitled "Ceremonials", she has incubated an obsession with drowning. "Drowning it's not violent in a way that some other ways of dying are", she said, "it's like letting something wash over you. I think there's romance in it." Undoubtedly the ginger Londoner, with her theatrical appeal, would be perfect in the role of a modern Ophelia. 

Acqua for Life - When Fashion Becomes Social

Un'importante iniziativa sociale che coinvolge anche Facebook, dove gli acquirenti potranno portare avanti e incrementare la propria opera di beneficenza attraverso la pagina www.facebook.com/acquaforlife. Basterà infatti inserire il codice personalizzato indicato sulla confezione per entrare a far parte della community, creare gruppi a sostegno del progetto e invitare gli amici a iscriversi, accrescendo così l'iniziativa. Giorgio Armani. A man, a King (as he has often been described in fashion world).

An extraordinary personality who has captivated and amazed us for years now with his creations, result of an elegance which is a cast of mind expressed in fashion product. A fashion product that has stood out all along thanks to its masterly tailoring, which can be described as a truly pure art free from frivolousness.

The 1th March, King Giorgio struck again, serving society with his art through the creation of a noteworthy humanitarian act, in collaboration with l'Oreal and the Green Cross International organization.

The name of the project is "Acqua for Life", and its aim is providing 40 million litres of water to the needy communities -favouring childrens- before the end of the year.

"If there's water, there is also life, energy and wellness" says the designer, and thanks to his work, for every bottle of the perfumes Acqua di Giò and Acqua di Gioia sold, one hundred litres of water will be donated to the community of Ghana.

An important social project that also involves Facebook. On the social network in fact people can continue and increase their charity work at www.facebook.com/acquaforlife. By inserting the personal code found on the packaging of the perfumes, they can join the community, creating new groups and inviting their friends to take part in, increasing the initiative: for every new member indeed, other ten litres of water will be automatically donated. A virtual action then, but with an important and real positive effect on society.

Roberto Bolle & Mariacarla Boscono: Can you feel the vibes?

E' un processo istintivo e improvviso, quello attraverso cui l'occhio viene catturato da un'immagine.

E' allora che, in seguito a un semplice sguardo furtivo, nella mente si susseguono, inanellandosi, le proiezioni astratte di un tripudio di sensazioni che l'immagine in questione ha suscitato.

Così è stato quando i miei occhi hanno incontrato, per puro caso durante il mio vagare tra le innumerevoli riviste di moda del Mondadori Multicenter di Milano, quest'editoriale pubblicato sul numero 09 A/W 2010/11 di Hercules Magazine, a mio avviso tra le testate più interessanti del settore.

It's an instinctive and sudden process, when the eye is captured by a picture.

Then, after a simple and sidelong glance, the mind fills up with abstract images produced by a blaze of sensations derived from the picture, and which follow one another and join together.

This is what happened when my eyes, during a hang out in the fashion magazines corner of the Mondadori Multicenter in Milan, accidentally came across this editorial, published on the issue 09 A/W 2010/11 of Hercules Magazine, in my opinion one of the most interesting fashion magazines.

Galeotta la copertina, così come la mia stima per Mariacarla Boscono, che mi ha spinto a sfogliare freneticamente le pagine, imbattendomi in queste foto di Paola Kudacki.

Passione. Emozione. Erotismo. Movimento. Vibrazioni che scorrono sotto pelle. La percezione di una chimica impossibile da spiegare a parole, ma talmente concreta da risultare palpabile, seppur bloccata all'interno di un fotogramma.

L'energia viscerale di Mariacarla, l'elegante fermezza di Roberto. Un fascio di nervi in fermento, che danzando si scontra con l'equilibrio strutturale di un corpo degno della miglior tradizione scultorea greca. Il fascino di mondi artistici diversi ma complementari, che in nome dell'Arte s'intrecciano. E non è più moda, nè fotografia nè danza, bensì il frutto di talenti uniti nella finalità di emozionare.

It all started with the cover, as well as with the esteem I have for Mariacarla. So I found myself frantically flipping over the pages, then I ran into these photos by Paola Kudacki.

Passion. Emotion. Eroticism. Motion. Vibrations running under the skin. The perception of a chemistry that is impossible to explain, but so concrete that you can almost touch it, although it is trapped in a frame.

The visceral energy of Mariacarla, the elegant balance of Roberto. A bundle of simmering nerves dancing with the structural stability of a body worthy of the best greek sculptural tradition. The charming of different but complementary artistic worlds which combine in the name of Art. And it's no longer fashion, neither photography nor dance, but rather the product of talents joined in the will of touching.

E ti emozionano entrandoti dentro, ammaliandoti e lasciandoti lì, sedotta e persa a contemplare piccole grandi opere d'arte, inseguendo con lo sguardo il fermo immagine di una danza che è impressa sulla carta come una perfetta simmetria.

Questa è fotografia. Questa è moda. Questa è la potenza della danza, che riesce a commuovere anche senza partecipazione diretta e senza la visione per intero delle sequenze di passi che ne costituiscono la base.

And they move you by getting inside you, captivating and leaving you there, charmed and lost in contemplation of little, great works of art, following with your eyes the freeze-frame of a dance imprinted in paper as a perfect simmetry.

This is photography. This is fashion. This is the power of dance, which is able to touch also without a real attendance and an entire vision of the sequences of steps  that represent its basis.

Look of the Week #10 - Julia Restoin-Roitfeld & Blake Lively

Questa settimana ho deciso di condividere con voi non uno ma due outfit, che ritengo siano senza dubbio tra i migliori che abbia pubblicato finora.

This week I decided to share with you not one but two outfits that I think are surely among the best ones I've ever published.



Il primo che vi mostro appartiene a Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, figlia del direttore di Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld.
Sebbene non ami prendere spunto dalle scelte altrui per creare il mio look, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld è sicuramente una delle mie muse ispiratrici in fatto di stile. C'è qualcosa d'immanente in lei, un fascino innato che la rende una perfetta portavoce di quell'eleganza e quella classe informali che le permettono di dare lustro a qualsiasi capo indossi.

Analizzando il look di Julia, per la prima volta mi trovo costretta ad ammettere di non riuscire a scovare una sola nota storta che ne rovini l'armonia. Non che di note storte non ce ne siano: immagino che molti di voi abbiano già puntato il dito sul trucco sciupato o sui capelli non troppo in ordine, ma basta che guardiate oltre, all'outfit nel suo insieme, per notare che ogni elemento combacia alla perfezione con gli altri, come se il tutto fosse legato da un filo invisibile che senza sforzi ha cucito una trama latente d'allure pacatamente sofisticata.
Tutto è armonico: il blu petrolio della camicia abbinato al beige della gonna tubolare, il fiocco scomposto all'altezza della scollatura e il tocco magistrale rappresentato dalla scelta delle decolletè animalier, elemento che cattura l'occhio creando un contrasto che non si fonda sul disaccordo cromatico -come spesso accade- bensì su un gioco di riprese dei colori caratterizzanti del look, attraverso una stampa che si fa notare. In parole povere, se mi venisse chiesto di elencare i punti fondamentali dell' "how to wear it animalier", non avrei dubbi riguardo alla pietra miliare: l'abbinamento creato da Julia se ne starebbe sulla vetta, ben lontano dal timore di un confronto.

Perfetta inoltre anche la scelta degli accessori, che sostiene la scuola del "pochi ma buoni" che io stessa sposo.

The first one I show you belongs to Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, daughter of Vogue Paris editor, Carine Roitfeld.

Although I don't like to look at other people's choices in creating my own look, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld is certainly one of my muses as regards style. There's something immanent in her, a natural-born charm that makes her a perfect mouthpiece of an informal class and elegance which allows to bring prestige to everything she wears.

Analyzing Julia's look, for the first time I'm obliged to admit that I can't find any wrong note that ruins its armony. This doesn't mean there are no wrong notes: I guess many of you have already pointed the finger at her haggard make-up or messy hair, but if you look beyond you can notice that all the elements are brought together perfectly, as if everything would be linked by an invisible thread that sewed without efforts a latent weave of placid sophisticated allure.

Everything is harmonic: the dark blue of the shirt matched with the beige of the pencil skirt, the coarse bow on the neck and the brilliant touch represented by the choice of the animalier pumps, an element that catch the eye by creating a contrast that is not based on chromatic division -as often happens- but on a play of matches with the main colours of the look, by means of a print that draws attention. In plain words, if someone would ask me to write down the major points of the "how to wear it animalier", I would have no doubts regarding its milestone: the match created by Julia would be on the top, far away form the fear of a comparison.

Perfect, furthermore, is also the choice of the accessories that belongs to the "few but good" school that I support.

L'altro outfit che ho scelto è quello sfoggiato da Blake Lively in occasione degli Spike TV Scream Awards 2010, firmato Lanvin.

Osannato da numerosi critici di moda e professionisti del settore, questo look  fa parte delle proposte di Lanvin per la primavera-estate 2011, ed è stato rivisitato da Blake apportando alcune modifiche: il top con scollo all'americana e la cinta-girocollo in pelle con inserto gioiello, che l'attrice indossa rispettivamente nelle tonalità del grigio e del marrone chiaro, nell'abbinamento scelto da Lanvin per le sfilate sono invece entrambe di un colore che oscilla tra il beige e il senape.

Personalmente preferisco l'abbinamento proposto da Lanvin, che trovo più luminoso e assolutamente in tono con i sandali gioiello, oltre a essere giocato su accordi cromatici di gran lunga più raffinati di quelli indossati da Blake. Ciò non toglie che questo look le doni comunque moltissimo e che sia perfetto per la sua figura slanciata, valorizzata dalla gonna lunga con spacco centrale sul davanti, così come per mettere in luce le spalle, dato che senza dubbio lo scollo all'americana è un validissimo alleato in questo senso.

Molto appropriati i bangles, sia per la fattura, che per i colori e la quantità: in ambito accessori non si poteva fare una scelta migliore per arricchire questa mise.

Stessa opinione per il make-up.

Per quanto riguarda l'acconciatura, avrei preferito vederla con i capelli sciolti e mossi, così da accentuare lo stile vagamente boho dell'outfit.

The other oufit I chose is the one worn by Blake Lively at the Spike TV Scream Awards 2010, designed by Lanvin.

Acclaimed by many fashion critics and experts, this look is one of those proposed by Lanvin for spring-summer 2011 and has been reinterpreted by Blake by changing some of its elements: the halter-neck top and the leather belt-necklace with jewel insert, which the actress wore respectively in grey and light brown colours, in the match proposed by Lanvin are instead both of a colour that swings between beige and mustard.

Personally I prefer Lanvin proposal, which I find brighter and absolutely in tune with the jewel-sandals, besides being based on chromatic matches much more sophisticated than those worn by Blake. Nevertheless, this outfit suits her a lot and it's perfect for her slender figure, enhanced by the long slashed skirt, and for enlighting her shoulder, as the halter-neck is certainly a great ally in this sense.

Furthermore, bangles are really appropriated as for their shape, quantity and colours: regarding accessories there would have been no better choices to enrich this mise.

Same opinion about the make-up.

For what concerns the hairstyle, I would have preferred seeing her with loose and wavy hair, in order to stress on the vaguely boho style of the outfit.

Look of the Week #9 - Kristen Stewart

Non considero Kristen Stewart un'icona di stile, ma apprezzo la sua semplicità e sono rimasta piacevolmente colpita dall'outfit che ha indossato in occasione degli Scream Awards 2010 organizzati da Spike TV.

Composto da un cocktail dress monospalla di GUiSHEM, bianco e nero con inserti blu e argento e con un'apertura semi-triangolare sulla schiena, e da decolletè nere di Giuseppe Zanotti, con plateaux bianco e tacco argento, il look di Kristen è sobrio e sofisticato. Il taglio dell'abito si adatta perfettamente alla sua fisionomia, valorizzando il fisico snello e illuminando la carnagione chiara.

L'abbinamento con le scarpe di Zanotti denota una buonissima dose di maestria in ambito stilistico, e un profondo rispetto degli accordi cromatici che secondo me, in un periodo in cui negli outfit dilaga il mix & match stile "tuffo nell'armadio", è assolutamente da apprezzare.

Devo dire che mi piace molto quest'abito, così come gli altri capi delle collezioni GUiSHEM in genere. Creato nel 2005 dallo stilista guatemalteco Guillermo Jop, il marchio GUiSHEM propone infatti abiti da sera, da cocktail e da sposa, caratterizzati da linee sobrie e accativanti, che mettono in risalto le forme e denotano una raffinatezza scevra da pretenziosità, che ben si addatta alle occasioni più svariate.

Ottima scelta per quanto riguarda l'abito quindi, idem per le scarpe.
Veniamo dunque ai lati negativi del look di Kristen: innanzitutto, anche in questo caso come in altri che ho proposto, una nota indubbiamente negativa è l'assenza di qualsiasi tipo di accessorio, che rischia di portare la semplicità dell'outfit a sconfinare nella banalità, rischio per fortuna frenato dalla particolareggiata eleganza del vestito.
In secondo luogo, si poteva optare per un'acconciatura più sofisticata. Con un abito del genere, il disordine della capigliatura è un contrasto davvero inadeguato.

Un altro dettaglio davvero pessimo che ho riscontrato riguarda la manicure, che data la dimensione ridotta delle foto non sono riuscita a mostrarvi (prima o poi mi deciderò a postare foto più grandi, promesso! Intanto ho aumentato leggermente la dimensione del collage), in sostanza il punto è il seguente: è sempre preferibile evitare di stendere sulle unghie uno smalto scuro se sono corte e poco curate, e Kristen purtroppo non sembra aver recepito il messaggio.

Infine, nessun appunto da fare riguardo al make-up, leggero e assolutamente appropriato sia al volto dell'attrice, che secondo me non richiede affatto un trucco pesante, che al resto della mise.

I don't consider Kristen Stewart a fashion icon, but I like her simpleness and I've been nicely struck by the outfit she wore at The Spyke TV Scream Awards 2010.

Composed by a one shoulder cocktail dress By GUiSHEM, black and white with blue and silver inserts and a semi-triangular opening on the back, and by Giuseppe Zanotti pumps, with white platform and silver heels, Kristen's look is sober and sophisticated. The cut of the dress perfectly matches with her physiognomy, enhancing her figure and enlighting her pale skin.

The match with Zanotti shoes denotes a really good dose of stylistic skills, and a deep respect for chromatic harmony that in my opinion, in a period characterized by mix & match outfits which are a "jump in a closet", should be greatly appreciated.
I ought to say I really like this dress, as all the others by GUiSHEM in general. Created in 2005 by the Guatemalan designer Guillermo Jop, GUiSHEM is in fact a brand that proposes evening, cocktail and bridal dresses characterized by sober and catchy lines, which enhance body shapes and show a sophistication free from pomposity and appropriate for various occasions.
Therefore, good choice as regards the dress, ditto for the shoes.
Then let's see the negative sides of Kristen's look: above all, in this case as in some of the others I proposed, a bad aspect is surely represented by the total lack of accessories that is likely to make the plainness of the outfit outfit fall into banality, a risk which is luckily stopped thanks to the detailed elegance of the dress.
In addition, it would have been better to choose a more classy hairstyle. With such a dress, messy hair is a really inappropriate contrast.
Another terrible detail that I found concerns Kristen's manicure, that I wasn't able to show you beacuse of the small size of the images (sooner or later I'll make up my mind to post bigger photos, I promise! For now I've slightly increased the size of the collage), summing up, that's the matter: it's always better not to varnish small and shabby nails with dark nail polish, and unfortunately it looks like Kristen didn't get the message.
Finally, no complaints about her make up: soft and really fit for the actress' face, which in my opinion doesn't need heavy make-up, and also for her outfit.
